IAS is a subsidiary of the International Code Council (ICC), a nonprofit professional association and leader in the building construction industry worldwide with over 64,000 members. ICC is dedicated to developing the International Codes and standards used in the design, build and compliance process to construct safe, sustainable, affordable and resilient structures. Most U.S. communities and many global markets choose the International Codes, that have provided the highest level of safety in the world for more than 90 years. Nearly 2 billion people are impacted by ICC’s building safety codes.

IAS accredits the inspection programs of companies that design and fabricate  custom engineered metal building systems. The accreditation is based on requirements in IAS Accreditation Criteria AC472, International Building Code® and related standards. The accreditation criteria covers inspections of metal building system elements that are essential for designing, specifying, building or approving metal building systems.

  • Verification that approved manufacturers meet requirements as described in Chapter 17 of the IBC.
  • The benchmark for companies that design and manufacture engineered metal building systems.
  • Provides a level of confidence that buildings will be designed and manufactured according to code and specifications.
  • Recognized by the Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) and International Code Council (ICC).

When you see the IAS Accreditation Mark, it means that a company has been evaluated for its technical competence and quality of service and has proven that it meets recognized standards. The IAS Accreditation Mark is recognized and accepted around the world as a symbol for organizations that meet the standards that matter the most.

The Metal Building Contractors & Erectors Association (MBCEA) is a trade association organized in 1968 to provide programs and services to the contractor and erector segments of the metal building industry.  The association proudly boasts membership from virtually every aspect of the industry. The MBCEA is not just for contractors and erectors. Many industry related suppliers are members as well. The Association provides a closed loop, captive audience. Manufacturers  and erectors can learn from each other about new products, new processes, and new trends to stay current and be competitive.

The MBCEA has developed several programs to benefit membership and industry, most notably, the MBI Quality and Craftsmanship Training Series and the IAS Accreditation Program, AC478. The IAS AC478 program for erectors compliments the IAS AC472 program for manufatcurers. Choosing both a manufacturer and an erector accredited through these programs is a combination sure to satisfy even the most particular critic.

The MBCEA maintains a national and local presence. Regional members organize into Regional Chapters and  currently boast ten of those throughout the US. Members are highlighted in a searchable directory on the MBCEA web page. The directory is used worldwide by companies seeking Contractors and Erectors.
